How to Cook and Sell in Tiny Eden

Turn harvests into plates, take neighbour orders, and fund the next room.

How to Cook and Sell

A ripe tomato is not money in Tiny Eden. The 1.0 FAQ is explicit: you sell cooked dishes. Raw crops and seedlings might arrive later, but launch economy is the kitchen. That single rule changes how you plant. You are not filling a shipping bin; you are stocking a fridge for salads, bakes, and whatever the apartment block ordered on the PC.

Read how to grow so the fridge actually fills. Use Getting Started if you have not finished the tutorial stove click.

How cooking unlocks

Reputation with the building unlocks recipes. Some dishes have a fixed shopping list. Others let you swap ingredients, and each swap changes the plate. There is no “invent any recipe” sandbox — the team has said they do not plan custom recipes. You will still experiment inside the allowed slots.

The FAQ promises at least 40 recipes, matching the ~40 plant species. That is a lot of kitchen time. Do not try to master the book in the demo’s two hours. Learn the stove, ship two dishes, then specialise around the plant tier list.

Using the stove

Demo players missed the recipe UI because they clicked the front of the cooker and only got an animation. Aim at the side panel. If a crop will not enter a recipe (flowers into flour, onions into the oven), it may be a bug rather than a demo lock — developers told a player the demo should allow every listed plant and recipe. Update the build, then try again.

Cooking takes time. You cannot always dump a harvest and walk away with a plated salad on the same click. Plan around the 60:1 clock: start a bake, water a pot, come back. There is no fail state for a slow day, but orders can expire if you ignore the PC.

Orders, parcel box, and the trading post

Patch 0.5.1 added a parcel box for non-furniture shop buys and an orders system from day two, reachable from the PC or the box. The July 2026 demo added an open trading post. Together they replace the old “work a coding job for $11” loop that early City Garden Harvest videos showed. If you are watching 2024 footage, ignore the office minigame until you see it in your own build.

Flow that works in current notes:

  1. Harvest into inventory / fridge.
  2. Open the stove, pick an unlocked recipe you can actually cook.
  3. Plate the dish.
  4. Check the PC for generated orders and the trading post for open demand.
  5. Deliver when the quest says to. Some story beats want you to walk the food to a neighbour, not magically mail it.
  6. Spend the cash on soil, pots, and seeds — not on ten lamps.

Reputation is the hidden currency. It unlocks recipes and shop seeds. A messy apartment that cannot fulfil orders will stall the expansion tree even if your strawberries look great.

What to grow for the kitchen

Think in dishes, not in species trophies.

  • Herbs (basil, cilantro) — cheap, shallow pots, and they pair with tomatoes.
  • Tomatoes — high recipe value, high maintenance, needs transplanting. See the pot size chart.
  • Onions and peppers — flavour crops; they failed to cook in a buggy older demo, so verify in yours.
  • Strawberries — early demo star, good for bakes and a gentle first harvest.
  • Greens — salads are the FAQ’s example of “meals that taste like home.”

Companion planting is a kitchen decision too. Tomato and basil share a deep/shallow pot without fighting. Cabbage next to tomato hurts both harvests and therefore both recipes. Plan windowsills with how to grow before you screenshot a rainbow of species.

Money math without a spreadsheet

You do not need min-max tables on day one. You need positive cash after soil restocks. Bulk shop rows save a little. Drones later convert time into more plates. The Goodies Pack ($2.99) is cosmetics — cats, drone skins, planters, wallpapers, a digital botanical companion — not an economy cheat. Base game is $14.99 USD; see release date for regional prices.

If a dish sells poorly, change the recipe or the crop, do not panic-buy a rooftop. The rooftop is an unlock, not a stall upgrade.

Practice in the demo

The demo guide is the right place to burn a first kitchen. Cook two recipes, complete one order, and note which ingredient you ran out of. That ingredient is your next pot. Then come back here after 1.0 in case raw-crop sales get patched in — the FAQ leaves that door open without promising it.

Official channels and the Steam page live on the links hub. When a recipe name changes in a patch, we will fold it into patch notes instead of leaving a ghost dish on this page.
